This started out as a random pen sketch (as usual). Decided to try my hand at the blob brush in Illustrator to "ink" it.

After that a quick (very quick) color job in Photoshop.

Really diggin the Punk/Rock-A-Billy vibe on this one.

shonen.gundam

So as my friends are aware, I've been on a gundam kick lately. I started watching the series from the original Mobile Suit Gundam in chronological order. (real dork here)

I just randomly started sketching this a couple of weeks ago and kind liked it. After scanning, some etheral voice commanded me to color. (may have been all the drugs talking, not sure)

Stuck with the primary color scheme of the RX-78, but made some changes to the mech as far as little details. Noticeably, the absence of the little "soul patch" that all gundams seem to have. Thus the name "shonen" (japanese for boy). He don't gots no facial hairs yet!!

Enjoy! Might try for a more detailed and finished drawing of him laters on.

p.s. i was kidding about the drugs. don't do drugs, they are bad.

So if you haven’t been to the site in a while or just haven’t noticed, there is now a music player in the sidebar on the blog section. It’s titled “What We Jam To” and you should check it out. It’s music that we frequently listen to while having jam sessions, but also just music [...]

Just Passing Through

Yeah that's right, your eyes do not deceive you! That's NOVA flying through Galactus' head! And yes, he went in through the eye! ( I should have added sound effects)

This one was drawn for my good friend Rich for his birthday. The original is on 14 x 17 in paper that I had to scan in two parts.

So yeah Nova is one of his favorite Marvel characters, and I wanted to really do something involved for his b.day. I sketched out a little rough of what I had in mind on 5 x 7 in notebook, and just threw myself into the full sized drawing with that as a guide.

It was a very fun experience drawing that size. Really comfortable, and easy to get all the little details.

This was started on a Thursday and finished on a Friday when I gave it to him. Probably the fastest time I have drawn something that I really liked. It is in definite need of some inking and then maybe down the line coloring, but for right now the original is in his possession. So who knows when that will happen. ;-)

Started in 4h pencil (hence the lighter lead on Galactus), Finished in HB

break.away

This is one of the many pieces I am currently working on that has not been finished yet.

My hope is to ink it up and drop some really interesting color on it.

I like the composition, but I am worried about the details that may be lost or poorly rendered. The skull head, the chain, the hands in front.

I'm perhaps too critical? Enjoy for now, until I get a better version done.

Lady.of.the.Lake

Sketched it out on a whim. I don't think i have ever drawn a sea creature before. It was fun though.

The hips bother me. Also, not sure if she is admiring the butterfly or about to eat it. ;-)

Eyeliner & Lipstick

I am guilty of spending hours just drawing random mismatches of faces on different types of heads. Sometimes I'll start a pic with a rather large head that I really want to put some detail into. This was one of those that ended up turning into a full drawing.

I tried playing around with a different hair style technique than previous work. Some people like it, some don't. I'm kind of indifferent. The thing that really struck me about this one though, was the expression. Especially her eyes. I really like how they came out. Just the right amount of moodiness to them. And of course, no moody girl is complete without the obligatory black lipstick!

That was a broad generalization by the way.

Audiophile.after.WookieStock

This was drawn via use of photo reference from wookiestock over on deviant art. I was browsing DA, and saw this as a great composition. He's got some pretty cool stock photos for reference for any artist out there looking for new material...

Of course, as always, I had to change a few things while drawing it. Shortened the sleeves, and made the jacket into a button down shirt. Elongated earphone cables (my signature), and threw in my favorite fictional band, Death Star, on the tshirt.

Whenever I do a picture from stock, or a photo in general, I try my best to make sure my lines are "live", and that my style still shines through.

My Last $10.Mesmo Delivery

So this month's edition of "My Last 10 Dollars" is again another trade paperback. After reading this one all I could think of were the things we miss the first time. For some reason or another I was completely unaware of "Mesmo Delivery" and its prolific artist, Rafael Grampa until just recently.

after:”szaaal”(by klaamka)

I drew this after seeing a cool pic by klaamka [link]. It was a quick sketch that I really liked so I decided to color the line work in photoshop to better reflect the source image. At the time, I was writing with a pen so I just started to lay down lines with that. No blue line under drawing or anything, just straight up line on paper.

I usually don't do it this way, but sometimes it is more relaxing to draw without the "net". Just give yourself over to the line instead of worrying about the process of it all. Also, it allowed me to give in more to my own rendering style in little areas.

One of the things I really like about this picture are the eyes. That's what made me want to draw this anyway when I saw the photo. The shot was just so well done. Unfortunately, I don't think I quite caught the full effect, but it was close enough for me.
