Eyeliner & Lipstick

I am guilty of spending hours just drawing random mismatches of faces on different types of heads. Sometimes I'll start a pic with a rather large head that I really want to put some detail into. This was one of those that ended up turning into a full drawing.

I tried playing around with a different hair style technique than previous work. Some people like it, some don't. I'm kind of indifferent. The thing that really struck me about this one though, was the expression. Especially her eyes. I really like how they came out. Just the right amount of moodiness to them. And of course, no moody girl is complete without the obligatory black lipstick!

That was a broad generalization by the way.

Audiophile.after.WookieStock

This was drawn via use of photo reference from wookiestock over on deviant art. I was browsing DA, and saw this as a great composition. He's got some pretty cool stock photos for reference for any artist out there looking for new material...

Of course, as always, I had to change a few things while drawing it. Shortened the sleeves, and made the jacket into a button down shirt. Elongated earphone cables (my signature), and threw in my favorite fictional band, Death Star, on the tshirt.

Whenever I do a picture from stock, or a photo in general, I try my best to make sure my lines are "live", and that my style still shines through.

My Last $10.Mesmo Delivery

So this month's edition of "My Last 10 Dollars" is again another trade paperback. After reading this one all I could think of were the things we miss the first time. For some reason or another I was completely unaware of "Mesmo Delivery" and its prolific artist, Rafael Grampa until just recently.

after:”szaaal”(by klaamka)

I drew this after seeing a cool pic by klaamka [link]. It was a quick sketch that I really liked so I decided to color the line work in photoshop to better reflect the source image. At the time, I was writing with a pen so I just started to lay down lines with that. No blue line under drawing or anything, just straight up line on paper.

I usually don't do it this way, but sometimes it is more relaxing to draw without the "net". Just give yourself over to the line instead of worrying about the process of it all. Also, it allowed me to give in more to my own rendering style in little areas.

One of the things I really like about this picture are the eyes. That's what made me want to draw this anyway when I saw the photo. The shot was just so well done. Unfortunately, I don't think I quite caught the full effect, but it was close enough for me.

Relaxing.in.the.Room

This started out as a way to play around with some crazy perspective and ended up being a rather chill bedroom scene. She's just having a good time listening to some jams. Also, note the panda on the floor.

Solitude

Day 3 of the "It's February & the Site is Still UP?!" Celebration

This was meant to be a more artsy interpretation of a modern ronin relaxing under a tree. Not as concerned with fine detail rendering as I was with creating form through linear method.

I tried to give the impression of the back of the tree being lit hence the lack of "bark" on the right side. As with most of my pictures, I'd like to go back to this and finish it up more.

That’s.My.DJ

Another music inspired piece. What can I say? I love music, I love art, why not bring the two together? So we have our DJ supreme jammin out in his headphones, swirls and all. Yeah I ran out of room on the page to put the record player, but I think you still get that he's scratching even without it. Or he could just be pretending to scratch. Like air-scratchin' I do that all the time.

What can an Apple Tablet do for You?

As my friends are aware, I've been randomly rambling about the Apple tablet and what awesome implications it could have. I pretty much follow Pak's line of thinking on all of it save one forgotten point. What will this mean for artists? For those who have been following the tech blogs, we know that Apple has billed Wednesday's press event as their "latest creation". The graphic features paint splotches behind the apple logo. Now I'm not a betting man, but if I were, my money would be on the tablet's presence in the digital art community.
