About

Who We Are

Freestyle Ronin is an art site featuring the collected works of several artists.

Mission Statement:
We exist to free our styles and those of other ronin artist from the restraints of genre, by constantly learning and sharing new techniques.

Why the name Freestyle Ronin?

The “Freestyle” comes from the difference in our drawing styles. Each of our styles differ
between us as a whole, and also individually within the boundaries of our own art.

The “Ronin” is derived from the Japanese word, which means “a samurai who has no master”. We believe ourselves to be Ronin because we are artists whom have yet to be employed for our skills. Our pencils and pens being our “swords”.

What’s Up With the Logo?

Freestyle Ronin’s logo design was a re-imagining of a previous logo into a simpler form. Referencing the Japanese influence of the group, the two letters of our name were put back to back so that they shared a common center line. The red references the Japanese flag, and the shape is an abstraction of a “tear”, which is from a commonly used symbol for samurai.
